The Moment You All Have Been Waiting For

We are finally settled in and ready to share our experience over the last 1 ½ weeks!

Since I updated you up until we got the house, I'll just start from there. Once we signed the lease and got the keys to the house we started uploading right away. I mainly directed traffic while Justin, Brian (SOP buddy that rode with us to help and go to his friend's wedding in town, and CJ (UA alum that is stationed here also) did the hard labor. The boys were making awesome time and were about 75% down with unloading/2 hours in when Justin realized we never weighed the U-Haul, which is crucial for us to get our money back. Here is a picture of how far they had gotten:

After some sulking we decided to go get dinner in town and then we came back and the boys loaded everything back up into the U-Haul and then we went to weigh it. After that whole ordeal it was already midnight so we decided to just unload the mattresses so we had something to sleep on and then go to sleep. Justin and I had been awake since 3am Thursday morning and didn't go to sleep until after 1am Friday morning. We were exhausted, but we woke up at 7am Friday morning and unloaded the U-Haul. The boys got everything out of the truck in just under 2 hours. We went straight to weigh the truck empty and then returned it to the U-Haul place so we didn't have to worry about anything bad happening to it while it was in our care. Since Brian was staying with us until early Sunday morning we didn't do much with the house for the rest of the weekend. We went out to the amphitheater in town to watch a fireworks show on Friday night and Saturday we sort of piddled around. Sunday we started getting the kitchen, living, and dining room put together, but Tuesday was when I got the bulk of the unpacking down. Justin reported in on Tuesday and had a bunch things to do so I was home and left to my own devices. I got the house completely unpacked Tuesday night, except for the few things we didn't have a place for (a few furniture pieces got thrown out during the packing process) and everything that needed hanging. Since Justin has had to go to work everyday we've had to hang things little by little, but we finally got to finish up tonight. I have a lot of pictures to share and a video tour of the house. Hope everything had been worth the wait!

I tried to include the video here, but Blogger (or YouTube) wasn't having it.

We are happy to finally be able to sit back and relax instead of always thinking of the next thing we need to do around the house.

Dad was able to track down his, Mom, and Bubby's address when they lived here for Dad's pilot training in 1989 so Justin and I went to find their old house. It's actually just around the corner from us!

Justin and I celebrated 4 years of marriage on Thursday. Lucky for us he didn't have as much stuff to do Thursday as he did Tuesday and Wednesday so we got to see each other a good bit yesterday. We did some things around the house and then took my car to Hyundai to get my brake lights fixed (part of a recall so it was free) and then we tried out a hole-in-the-wall burger place in town for supper. We are going to San Antonio tomorrow in the hopes that we will find Justin a truck! We decided to stay the night so we can do other things in town if we want to.

Justin leaves for his Initial Flight Screening (IFS) this month. He will be VERY busy while he's there so those of you who are used to hearing from him may not get to talk to him as much as you are used to. Long story short, because he leaves so soon he is having to drive himself instead of fly through the government. He will get reimbursed, but usually guys fly on the governments dime. He was encouraged to drive, not fly, and all the guys going with him were told NOT to carpool because of the sort of "ethics" that would go into splitting up the reimbursement. It works out for them because that way they'll all get money back, but it's bad because then they'll have to drive all that way. If Justin has a truck by then he will still take my car to IFS and leave me the truck just in case I need to go somewhere... I told him I'll be too afraid to drive a truck anywhere, though!

So far we are still loving the base and town. Since we aren't party animals, the shopping, restaurants, and movie theater in town are more than enough to keep us entertained! We still haven't gone to check out the mall yet, but I'm planning to look into that very soon now that we are settled in.

The dogs and cats are settling in nicely too. The dogs aren't used to the big backyard still, but they are getting braver each day and are starting to go out into the grass more. Bear has been peeing on corners in the house so we think there may have been a dog here before us. Hopefully we can get him to stop before he stinks up the whole house. The cats are doing surprisingly well being cooped up. There have only been a few times that they really wanted to go outside; Lexi even snuck out this morning while I was letting the dogs out. Their cat tree being set right in front of the big sliding glass doors seems to be enough "fresh air" for them, most of the time. We have a lot of wildlife in the backyard so they like to sit there and watch behind the glass.

We put up some squirrel food after seeing a repeat visitor and we've already had two squirrels come eat. One of them was the one we bought it for, and he comes back every day, but today we noticed it was a different squirrel eating. We're pretty sure one is a boy and the other is a girl so we've named them Samson and Delilah. I named the boy Samson before the girl showed up, but when we saw her and noticed it was probably a girl I said we should name her Delilah since Samson's tail has been obviously shortened/docked and that's kind of like his "hair." They seem to really enjoy their food so hopefully they keep coming back. I love to sit at the dining room table and watch them go!

Justin submitted all of our receipts, etc. to get reimbursed for traveling as well as the paperwork to start his paycheck so hopefully that all will kick in soon. For some reason, I wasn't on his orders so he's having to jump through a few more hoops than he should have to (they're treating it like we got married after he became active versus before), so we're expecting that to tack on some processing time. Luckily everything that has gone wrong, other than not weighing the U-Haul, has been everyone else's fault, and not mine and Justin's. We've done everything like we were supposed to so we're able to sleep well at night.

It actually rained here today and it was pretty hard. It was no severe thunderstorm, but it was definitely a rain storm. It rained in the morning when we woke up and then again this evening. Whoever said it never rains in Del Rio was wrong!

I don't have anything else coming to mind to talk about so I'm going to leave it here. We hope every has a nice weekend!
