Justin and I are in the midst of packing and saying our goodbyes to friends and family. We met Mrs. Phyllis and Brandon in Montgomery yesterday for a few hours to get lunch and shop a bit, tonight we are going to a ROTC-mate's house for a going away party for us and two other guys, and tomorrow after church we will probably meet up with another ROTC couple for lunch.
As of right now we have about half of the house packed up. All that’s left is half the kitchen, the living room, master bedroom and closet, master bathroom, and Justin’s shed. It sounds like a lot, but it really isn’t. We’ve already packed up the rooms that have the most things needed to be put in boxes. The kitchen will use a lot of boxes, but the rest of the rooms will probably take one box each.
We have three guys coming over on Tuesday to help us load up the U-Haul. We’ve offered to pay them $20 each (more if it takes longer than we expect) plus provide them with food and drink. We are getting a 20’ U-Haul and are praying that all of our stuff fits. Since most of our furniture has some sort of storage (drawers, cabinets, etc.) we think we will be able to pack everything in the truck, but it will definitely be a tight fit.
We are planning to leave on Wednesday around 7-8am. Justin will be driving the U-Haul and I will be driving the car with all the animals. We are stopping in Winnie, TX at a hotel Wednesday night and then waking up and heading to Laughlin around 5am Thursday morning. We are hoping to make it to Laughlin around lunch time so that we can go to Housing before it closes, as well as Personnel and Finance so we can get Justin’s pay started.
A guy that graduated from UA a few years ago is stationed at Laughlin right now so Justin reached out to him to see if he could help us unload once we got there… Even though Justin hasn’t talked to him since his flight physical in October the sweet guy didn’t think twice before telling us “yes”! He said he’d even see if he could find a few friends to help out, but since it’s July 4th weekend we aren’t counting on many people being available.
Until we get a house we are scheduled to stay in temporary housing, where we can have the dogs with us. We have decided to board the cats until we can get a house and then the U-Haul unloaded so that we don’t have to worry with them escaping out the door and they don’t have to be stressed out from all the commotion. Luckily the vet gave me some sedative for them on the drive so they will be calm during the most stressful part of the trip.
We don’t have any more details at the moment. I will e-mail once we get to Laughlin to let everyone know we made it safe, but I will use the blog for lengthy updates.
XOXO.
